Portraiture
This is a specialised field. I produce portraits from sittings or, much more commonly from supplied photographs. |
I work in black and white – which can be very descriptive, or in watercolour – using the medium in concentrations which liken it more to acrylic and oil studies, as you can see from the examples here. It is also quite straightforward to amalgamate the subjects of a number of different photographs into one coherent whole – useful for group studies where not everyone has produced their best sitting at the same time, or where other elements require to be “woven in “ |
Sittings invariably produce a looser interpretation than work from photographs but the input of the client is important in both. Sittings require patience, open-mindedness and ideally a connection between artist and sitter. Where, as is usual, photographs are supplied, these should give as much information about the subject person as possible. It is unrealistic to expect stunning results if the material with which I am supplied is vague and undefined |
On the other hand, circumstances sometimes dictate that there is no choice in the standard of your photographs. On occasion in the past, this has still produced some terrific results and if this is your situation, it is worth discussing your material with me, providing either hard copies or Email material for me to consider. If I can’t work with your material, I will tell you so. |
